If there is a name of a passenger, including crew members who deserted, the document is indexed. This does not include any crew members (who returned with the ship- there are examples of these in the projects) or other family members that were not passengers. One key is whether or not they stayed in the US.

Different column heading- it states If native of United States insular possession or if native of United States give date and place of birth.
These are to be indexed as United States in the Country of Birth or Nationality field.

Projects where Nationality is recorded
Field Helps are being changed to follow these three rules:
1-if a nationality is recorded, index the nationality
2-If there is an abbreviation and you KNOW what the abbreviations stands for, expand to a Country- not a nationality- using the look-list for help
3-If there are abbreviations such as N S, type what you see.
We have to remember that people from all over the world are working on these records.
