Census Records

Indexers and Arbitrators:
On some census records the enumerators have entered a symbol that looks like an backward "c" and sometimes along with a small looking ditto mark. ( " ).  You will notice that it is written just before the surname.  We have been advised that the entries should be indexed and arbitrated as "Mc" such as in Irish names McXxxxxx.
